How did you get into modelling, and how long have you been doing it?
I was scouted at Girls Day Out when I was 14 years old. A year later I signed to KHM (which was August Models at the time).

What’s the best modelling job you’ve done so far?
I had a lot of fun shooting the Kate Sylvester lookbook.

If you weren’t modelling, what would you be doing?
Well right now I work at a daycare and model part-time. I look after children!

Where’s your dream modelling destination?
New York City! I’ve had meetings with Ford and with IMG Paris so anywhere there’s work for me!

What about your dream modelling job?
I’d love to book a big campaign – Gucci. And walk the Marc Jacobs show.

What’s your favourite thing about modelling? And least favourite thing?
I love the people and the adrenalin – the rush. Modelling can also be quite a rewarding job. My least favourite thing about it is the “unpredictable-ness” of it all.

What’s the best piece of advice you could give to young, new models?
It’s easy to get swept up in the glamour of it all – don’t get your hopes up. Keep your expectations low and work hard.

What’s something people wouldn’t necessarily know about you?
I have a pet goat named Tina.

Do you have a favourite colour?
I like neutrals.

Favourite models?
Bambi Northwood-Blyth and Tallulah Morton.

Favourite animals?
Eagles and deers and bears and snakes!

1. I spontaneously went to the Polo today. I was pretty skeptical at first, but after the long (bus) ride out there, a yarn with a friend I haven’t seen in ages and a few canapés, I was feeling pretty happy. Moral of this story? Food makes everything better.
2. This video of Tavi (I know, Tavi again, shush yourselves!) singing Neil Young’s ‘Heart of Gold’ live. LIVE!

4. This shot of Noah Emrich (from NOVH) by James Nord is so fricken good. The outfit, the pose, the location, everything. He just looks so damn cool. (Sup Noah.)
5. The Liam launch at the Ruby pop-up store on Wednesday night. Cool collection (keep an eye out for the bright blue pants!) and a cool event with food, drinks and Watercolours playing live. Can’t get much better than that.

1. It’s ‘gutted’ not ‘guttered’! Guttered makes no sense! ARGH!
2. Stupid voices including, but not limited to – baby voices and pretend animal voices (dogs, cats, etc).
3. I stood on someone’s sunglasses the other day, and broke them. And not even just a little bit broke them, I broke, broke them. And what’s more, they weren’t even his sunglasses – he had borrowed them from his brother. UGH.
4. Wow, so that credit card debt is just not going to go away on it’s own, huh?

Good Morning readers! Today I am making a spontaneous trip to the Polo so no proper blogging until much later, if at all. Oh well! Just thought I should let you know. Anyway, one thing I did see that I think that you should all check out (if you haven’t already) is this set of backstage photos from Karen Walker’s AW12 show at New York Fashion Week, shot by who I would consider the best backstage show photographer out there: Sonny Vandevelde. I’ve been backstage at a few shows with Sonny before, and no one seems to be able to get the models going (or intimidate the crap out of me) like he does. Like all his photography, these Karen Walker photos are full of life and fun and most importantly, you can actually see the clothes in motion. El perfecto.

In case you hadn’t heard, I’ve been hitting the streets this past week, snapping people in Converse sneakers. It’s been pretty successful so far, most people have been receptive to having their picture taken by a stranger – especially when there are free Chucks and tickets to the Fashion Festival involved – but there’ve also been a few rejections…

How did you get into modelling, and how long have you been doing it?
I was scouted at St Lukes Mall by a photographer from 62 Models. I was 14 years old. I’ve been modelling for about two years.

What’s the best modelling job you’ve done so far?
I did a test shoot with Rob Hart – I really liked working with him. Also, the Trelise Cooper show at last year’s New Zealand Fashion Week was really fun to walk in. 

Where’s your dream modelling destination?
I think New York City.

If you weren’t modelling, what would you be doing instead?
I think I’d be at University. I want to do communications and I think I’d like to get into PR.

Do you have a favourite food?
Burritos!

Favourite New Zealand Designers?
I like lots – but I think I’d have to say Lonely Hearts, Stolen Girlfriends Club and that new brand, Coop.

Is there anything you wouldn’t do for modelling?
Nudity.

What’s your favourite thing about modelling? And least favourite thing?
You meet lots of great people. I feel quite privileged to be able to do what I do but I guess there’s a lot of pressure in the industry. You sometimes get put in positions where you’re asked to do things you might not want to do. So I guess the pressure. But I still feel very lucky and grateful to be able to do this job.

Tell me something people wouldn’t necessarily know about you?
I hate dancing! I really, really don’t like it. I will do anything to get out of it. I went to a casting last week where they asked us to dance – it was horrible!

The model casting for the New Zealand Fashion Festival was a little different to the casting for New Zealand Fashion Week. For starters, it wasn’t one casting – it was several. And in several locations. Each agency had the models come to their own offices, while Karen Inderbitzen-Waller drove around town to each, to hold the castings and see what girls they had on offer.

I was invited along for the ride – unfortunately, being the busy blogger I am, I could only attend 3.5 of the 7 castings they had, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I took my camera (obviously) – here are a few of the girls and boys I snapped along the way:

1. Happy Birthday mommy dearest!
2. I know it must seem like I put a link to a video or quote from Tavi Gevinson every week, but this has to be seen – a video of her packing for New York Fashion Week. She is just so damn interesting to watch. So damn interesting!
3. While we’re on the topic of New York Fashion Week, how great is Ella Verberne doing?! I feel like I’ve seen her picture pop up from shows all day long. Props must also be given to Yasmin Bidois who is looking pretty good in this shot from the Christian Siriano show.
4. The limited edition colourways of the re-released ‘Thugged Out Since Cub Scouts’ tees are well underway. For all those asking – here’s a peek – expect more info on this tomorrow.
5. Was last week not the best weather week in Auckland that we’ve had this whole summer? Why was everyone complaining about the heat? It was glorious! Isn’t it strange how great weather can substantially improve one’s mood ?
6. I received one of the nicest and most generous emails I have ever received from a stranger, post my blog entry on the (financial) struggles of being a blogger. I don’t want to embarrass her, but basically she said very kind words and was very helpful and because of it, this blogger may have just found a place to stay for Australian Fashion Week!
7. My old flatmate and good, good friend, Xerxes, is back in Auckland to visit for the first time after moving to Copenhagen over a year ago. It has improved my life tenfold.

Low(e)s:

1. I forgot how awkward it is to ask people on the street for a photo. I think during Fashion Week it’s fine – people are expecting it and are more than happy to be approached. Same with people in New York. But here in Auckland? Everyone’s so standoff-ish. You approach someone and they look at you like you’re going to mug them.
2. It looks like the whole of next week’s weather is going to be the opposite of last week. In other words, rainy and sad.
3. Every time I want to get a pizza-by-the-metre from Toto’s, the place is shut or the kitchen is closed or they don’t do them on the day I’m calling. I’m jinxed.
4. Card declined in a café a couple of days ago. So awkward.
